Lindenhöfe
Lindenhöfe station is a central research instrument for researchers in livestock sciences, bioenergy and crop sciences, as well as neighboring disciplines at the University.
The station has a powerful potential in experimental capacity at all levels of the agricultural production of animal products (animal husbandry) involving cattle, pigs, sheep and small animals. It also has designated areas for producing plant biomass for food and energy purposes. As such, it forms the foundation for experimental field research and hence the foundation for successfully attracting funds from the German government, the EU, the business community and relevant associations in the context of high-quality and cost-intensive scientific research.
The focus of the projects within the range of applied and basic research is on
- improving the methods for producing animal products (agriculture as a production industry)
- improving and assuring the quality of agricultural products in animal husbandry (consumers)
- making animal husbandry more environmentally friendly (environment)
- improving the adaptation of production methods in animal husbandry to the specific needs of different livestock (animal protection).
Other areas of concentration include the improvement of the potential of crops through breeding for different purposes (yield, contents, functional characteristics and quality) and the improvement of crop-growing systems as part of producing biomass for energy purposes.
Finally, one central focus is on researching the sustainability of the conversion of agriculturally produced biomass into energy for electricity and heat production as well as (in the long term) fuels based on the biogas research plant installed at the station (bio or agro energy).
